The View-Master Personal Stereo camera, a unique stereo camera, was constructed by Sawyer's Incorporated in Portland, Oregon. Originally known for their 2D and 3D postcards, Sawyer's introduced their own stereo camera in 1952. It produced miniature stereo pairs of images on 35mm film, which could then be mounted in View-Master reels. This allowed amateur photographers to create their own 3D reels for View-Master viewers.
The camera features a mechanism that allows the photographer to photograph through the entire roll on the top or bottom of the film. Once the end of the roll is reached, a dial is turned, changing the exposure to the opposite layer, and the film is then wound back through with exposures recorded above or below the previous shots.
The View-Master Personal Stereo Camera has manually adjustable apertures from f/3.5 to f/16 and shutter speeds ranging between 1/10th to 1/100th of a second, with an additional Bulb mode. Focus on the lenses is fixed, with an optimum range between 4-7 feet (depending on the aperture) to infinity.
